Resolved Question: Isn't the United Nations the proper place for the resolution of the problems of Mexico?

Women and Population http://www.unfoundation.org/global-issues/women-and-population/ (Excellent!) --------------------------------------------------- Sustainable Development http://www.unfoundation.org/global-issues/sustainable-development/ Sustainable development means meeting the needs of today (food, shelter, employment, etc.) without compromising the ability of future generations from also meeting those same needs. We believe in the power of individuals, the private sector, local actors, governments and others to support the United Nations’ leadership in conserving the wonders of the natural world toward promoting sustainable development. Our program helps local communities develop sustainable livelihoods around some of the UN’s more than 870 World Heritage sites—including such treasures as Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands and Mexico’s Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. (I would point out that if the United Nations intervened in this horrible mess, the incredible desert of the South west could be saved in addition to being cleaned up.) Mexico could easily pay for these services they need so badly.) ------------------------------ Sustainable Development http://www.unfoundation.org/global-issues/sustainable-development/ Jobs for all Mexican Nationals and in their own home towns. What more could a nation ask for? ----------------------------- ----------------------------- Shouldn't Mexico be going to the United Nations rather than harassing the American Taxpayers for money? The United Nations has done a great deal more than these answers suggest. And while Mexico can say they don't want that help, they should not then turn to the United States and get that help. The UN has a job... and it is to take care of the complaints that Mexico is suggesting are her's. It is NOT the job of the American Taxpayers!!! more

I am more than happy to receive constructive criticism, but to be told that, simply because I am not a sports nerd, I do not have a good chance of acceptance, really turns my buttons.Hi, Actually, only the top two percent in the state receive a medal on the music theory exam. What other aspects of my resume are unneeded? Winning international science competitions, along with 18 other awards from NASA, US Air force, etcetera? I can guarantee you, very few people in the world can put that on their resume. Are you even familiar with Intel? Receiving full scholarships to colleges in 10th grade? Having my work published in scientific journals, and receiving invitations to speak at international conferences? Playing with the Houston Symphony? Winning national competitions in writing, government, receiving perfect and near perfect scores on foreign language exams, etcetera? One who excels in every area of academia, with the exception, from what you can see, of sports, is not what I would call a nerd. For one to focus on sports is what I deem 'nerdy.' And if sports truly is the end-all be-all, I am happy to inform you that I am involved in both soccer and fencing,...and two forms of dance (which are considered sports). I am also a female. So, what exactly is superfluous? I am more than happy to receive constructive criticism, but to be told that, simply because I am not a sports nerd, I do not have a good chance of acceptance, really turns my buttons.Apparently, you did not read my resume. Art and music 'only'? Look at the science and debate, friend. I have already been invited by a top physicist to come spend the summer at UCLA to work with him on his research. I have also been invited into various summer programs at Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, etcetera. This items which I listed (with the exception of the NSHSS) are all things which very few are able to accomplish, and if they do, they only accomplish that one item, not many, put together. It figures that you do not allow email.VERITAS: Thank you. I am Greek American. :) more

Resolved Question: Why can't one of Canada's towns transform into a utopian socialist colony?

In the United States, not nicknamed "The Crade of the best and the worst" for nothing, we actually have some socialist-like colonies called ecovillages and intentional communities. One of the best is "Twin Oaks" in Virginia, look it up. Intentional Communities originated in Denmark where co-ops are owned in common, built around green space, shared facilities for children and families, and often blocked to motor vehicles. Each community has its own system and the ultimate goal is 100% sustainability such that everything you need, including work, is provided inside the small community. The most sustainable ecovillage on earth is Crystal Waters, Australia, where all food is grown, shared, and managed by the community, and there's no need to ever leave the foundation. Why can't Canadians try to create something like this in Manitoba or Ontario and work with the First Nation to enhance survival skills and beat around the global economy by escaping from it completely? Why can't Canadians do this out of a greater good? In the USA, the taxcode has section 501(d) which exempts equal income-sharing foundations, along with religious institutions, with population above a certain size, from having to pay property tax. Edit: I bet most Canadians know more about the "Monroe Doctrine" - ) than Americans. And no it wasn't the same thing. (The Americas separated from the East Atlantic as far as 19th century trade relations.) - which NEVER held out, and totally was ruined after World War I. Also, the idea of the ecovillage is that the sustainable community is local enough that you know everyone you work with and live with like a family. The entire Western Hemisphere would be kind of big for that, eh?Edit: 1) Alright how about if you still pay property tax? 2) And each locality forms a separate but TOTALLY equal utopian society. It's NOT Gated, anyone is welcome to enter or leave, but they must contribute. 3) Each utopian locality maintains communication with other ones and periodically they all come together and share home-grown film, music, theatre, etc. more

Resolved Question: Where can I advertise volunteer opportunities free of charge?

Hi, I have just set up a small sustainable tourism project in Northern Thailand. We are NOT an ngo/foundation/charity but run several community projects one of which is to find foreign volunteers for hilltribe schools. Does anyone know of websites where I can advertise volunteer opportunities for free? ( I already use Craigslist and Idealist)? Or how I can find volunteers? Thanks,  more

Resolved Question: How can Canadians develop a sustainable economy and a sustainable way of life?

Resolved Question: I propose that God is an abbreviation, of the three tools that the superpowers use to control the world.?

Gold, Oil and Drugs. The stuff wars are based on. Fear and Doubt are states the general population are whipped into when a new buzz word is released into mainstream media. "terrorism" think about that. I know I have your attention, so please answer me this- When will the people come together and declare with a million voices, we have suffered enough! This illusion we have been "educated" with, to believe any government is protecting us, is crumbling at is foundations. Who out there has survival skills? When all systems are off-line and money provides no nutrients, the transport systems stopped 3 days ago and inner new yorkers have resorted to cannabalism, who has survival skills? Native culture that has long been reguarded as primitive looks like a sustainable system, not reliant on petrolchemical society. community still beats with strong heart too. We are taught things with which they use to blind us. Tell me what you think? more
